It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
